The Prism Project

The Promoting Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple Interventions, or PRISM Program, is a collaboration between the Government of Kerala and the Faizal and Shabana Foundation. It is designed to improve the standards of government schools through planned interventions. The Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools for Girls, Nadakkavu in Kozhikode (Calicut), was the flagship school which was renovated as part of this program.

Over a period of a year, the Foundation transformed the school’s infrastructure using offsite manufacturing and precast,  modular technology. It upgraded the sporting facilities, library, laboratories and classrooms which improved the learning environment exponentially. Intervention programs were also introduced. These included teacher training programs, vocational training and a teacher/student inter-school learning and knowledge exchange program, amongst others. The results have been inspiring, moving Nadakkavu from being an under-resourced school to one of the top three government schools in the country, experiencing more than 100% growth in enrolments and over 400% improvement in academic results. Nadakkavu has become a case-study in successful intervention and a model repeated in more than 70 schools in Kerala, with thousands more in the pipeline.
