Malja-Ul Islam Orphanage, Kasargod

The Malja-ul Islam orphanage was founded by Masthan Beevi, who initially financed it by selling her own possessions. Beginning life as a self-funded Madrassa, Beevi bequeathed the school to Yenepoya Kunjabdulla, who was made the chairman upon her passing. Since that time many changes have been made including the expansion of sleeping quarters and classrooms, the addition of a kitchen and dining hall and the construction of a mosque and boys’ hostel.

With the support of the Faizal & Shabana Foundation, a girls’ hostel and additional facilities were constructed – inclusive of tuition for residents. The orphanage was home to 110 students before the pandemic, which included those from nearby districts and states. So far the orphanage has seen 13 medical doctors, two engineers and five government workers arise from its graduates, with many more success stories waiting in the wings. It’s outcomes like these that fuel the passion of the Faizal & Shabana Foundation
